Important Information for Parents

Inclement Weather
In the event of severe weather, we follow the schedule of Sumter District 17.

Student Arrival
Classes at Trinity Day School begin at 9:00.  Our teachers are ready to begin their activities then, so it’s important to have your children at school on time.  To make drop-off easier, we will begin moving the line at 8:45.  Teaching assistants will unload your children from the car and walk them inside the building.  Three and four year olds will unload on Council Street, and five year olds will unload at the playground entrance.  These lines are "MOVING" lines.  Please do not park your car and get out to talk if you are in line.  If you are in the pickup line, a staff member will come to your car.  If you wish to walk your child in, please park in the lots available.

Parents of 2 year olds are asked to park in the lot by the playground and walk their children inside to make separation easier.  As the year progresses and the child’s comfort level increases, 2’s can be unloaded in the pick-up line.

Parking
Parking for Trinity Day School is available in the lot by the playground and across the street at the Williams Brice Center on Council Street.  Please do not leave children unattended in your car or in the parking lot.

Student Departure
Classes are dismissed at 12:00 noon.  On time pick-up is expected.  Three year olds will be picked up on Council Street, and four and five year olds will be picked up at the playground.  It is important for parents of three year olds to STAY IN THE CAR if you are in the pickup line.  The children get excited to see you if you get out of your car, and we don’t want any children running toward the street to get to you.  A staff member will bring your child to your car.  Twos will be picked up at their classroom door.

Only authorized people will be permitted to pick up children.  Parents must call or send a note if someone other than the norm is picking up.

Clothing
Children should wear comfortable clothing to school.  We are a creative, active place, so please keep in mind that the children will be involved in a number of activities that could be messy.  Please label all clothing and outerwear with your child’s name and send an extra set of clothes (seasonally appropriate) that we can keep at school in case of accidents.  Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately for the weather, because the students play outside daily.  Also be mindful of your child’s ability to dress and undress him/herself for bathroom purposes.

Parent Updates, Conferences and Visits
All parents will be updated regularly on the happenings in their child’s classroom.  Teachers will send newsletters to highlight skills or concepts being taught and to share information about the children.  Developmental assessments will be sent home in January and May to keep parents updated on their children’s progress.

For use in printed publications, Right-Click on the filename below to download and choose Formal conferences are held in January for parents of all 3, 4 and 5 year olds.  Kindergarten parents will also conference with the teacher again in May.  This is a time for parents and teachers to discuss progress, any concerns and set goals.  Parents of 2 year olds may request a conference at any time they feel it necessary.

We encourage you to come visit, but as a safety precaution and to keep class disruptions to a minimum, please check in at the Day School Office beforehand.

Parent Involvement
Parent involvement is the key to our success, and there are a couple of ways to get involved:

Volunteers:  The Day School encourages parents to use their time and talents to volunteer in many ways.  Parents have the opportunity to sign up for parties and special events during the year.

TDS Parent Club:  This committee was formed to honor teachers with special incentives, raise money for the school and support the program with ideas and suggestions.  The TDS board consists of a President, VP, Secretary, Treasurer, Box Top Representative, and a Scholastic Representative.  This year, each class will have a parent representative on the committee, but all parents are always welcome to attend the meetings.  Meetings are held the first Wednesday of every month at 9:00 am.
